Two Navy F-18 'SuperHornet' drivers recently saw their careers go up in smoke thanks to an awesome flyby they performed at the start of a GA Tech football game last fall, according to Navy Times. A Rear Admiral who investigated the case claimed the flight lead "failed to provide effective [crew resource management] for his flight and allowed an unsafe flyby to occur with nearly tragic consequences" and grounded them permanently. The pilots were members of Strike Fighter Squadron 136 at Oceania NAS, and are both GA Tech grads.

On top of the "Idiots" tag, this story also picks up a "Political Correctness" tag. I mean, since when is CRM part of being a fighter pilot?

Agree- weak effort for what would be their fini-flight. I'm thinking 100ft/450KIAS ingress, opposing 10degree pop, guns-shooter. Crossover egress, full blowers, & dump 50 cans of chaff & flare on the place. Even the campus hippies would be in line to join NROTC after that! Hoooahhh!

Good point Steamer - as a fini-flight it was kind of lame!

You guys are underplaying the horror that could have been from the risk that these two retards took. They put the lives of tens of thousands of people at risk.

I mean, watch that video again...carefully...what if, just as these two were over the stadium, a meteor streaking through the skies had struck the flight lead's jet, causing a huge explosion and roasting thousands of football fans alive? And what if that explosion had sent the wingman careening off on a wild tangent, and his plane crashed into the Savannah River Nuclear Warhead plant, detonating the 329 warheads that are currently undergoing refurbishment?

It would have made for one ugly day. Not even Jack Bauer could have cleaned that mess up. Well, maybe with Chloe and Rene's help he could...yet I digress.

So I thoroughly applaud the Rear Admiral's courageous stand to punish these two deviants.

Now had this occurred AFTER the Obama-Care law was passed, the Rear Admiral probably wouldn't have come down so hard on those two deviants. With Obama-Care, anyone killed or maimed could have been easily cured or brought back to life free of charge courtesy of government health care.

It's just poor timing on the part of those two pilots.

Excellent point Mongo. Rear Admiral Dipshit should immediately be promoted for single-handedly protecting the USA against any future US Navy 2-ship, fingertip, fully configured, slow-speed, straight and level public fly-by's.

It would have been real sweet if one of them had dropped his hook and snagged a cute little cheerleader while she was doing cartwheels on the sidelines.

Just the thought of being able to snag a piece of tail with the hook, why, it just makes everything all bright and smiley.

And bonus points if he had kicked in the burners and burned the plucked eyebrows off of a male cheerleader as he made his escape.

Liek most on this post I am mystified as to what happened. Too low? And so much so that they are permanently grounded? YGBFSM! This is the same type of lame US Navy that shit-canned CAPT O.P. Honors. Glad this admiral didn't see my F-111 AFA flyby in 1995!

I led a 3-ship (one ground abort) F-15C flyby near Detroit for Memorial day once, about 60 NM from my home town. But being from Alaska we were officially restricted to 1000 AGL and had to squawk Mode 3/C because of our close proximity to Detroit Metro. So cheating on altitude would be seen and recorded. That little altimeter setting gizmo works real nice sometimes. (Can anybody say 350 feet AGL?).
