When waterboarding was child's play

I was admittedly late to Werner Herzog's party for the release of his Dieter Dengler documentary which premiered in 1979, but, oh, what a story. Shot down over Laos in the early days of the Vietnam War, Dengler survived brutal torture from his Pathet Lao captors but eventually escaped into the jungle and was rescued. Herzog later made "Rescue Dawn", a fictionalized version of the story starring Christian Bale in 2007.
